Join me for a journey of uncertain length into the Alpine and existential abysses of Thomas Mann's queer wartime classic, The Magic Mountain. In ambivalent celebration of the centennial of the novel's publication in 1924 (both the novel itself and the eerie familiarity of its themes being more than a little troubling, yet worth the trouble for their strange and inimitable beauty), we will read the story through to its end, with separate tracks for hopefully judicious Mann-splaining and commentary.
